Food is Medicine

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food,” said Hippocrates, who is considered to the father of modern medicine, 2500 years ago.

Illness is the result of eating the wrong food and not eating the right food. Refined sugar, refined salt, refined oil and polished rice are examples of wrong food. Not eating enough right food such as fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts or eating these foods in the wrong way (for example, juicing the fruits, cooking the vegetables, roasting the seeds, frying the nuts) deprives us of the vital nutrition, which is the foundation of a healthy body.

The ‘ignorant’ people living in ‘underdeveloped’ countries do not search for doctors and medicines, when they fall sick. They eat Ginger when they have a cold; Garlic when they have a cough; Fenugreek when the blood sugar is high; Pineapple when they have a back pain; Guava for constipation; Yoghurt for diarrhea; Pomegranate for dysentery. They know for centuries – Food is Medicine.
